"How do long and short time fit together?" The common thread running through this morning's session, the articulation between these two times is, according to Gilles Babinet, "what gives us the capacity to act. "Long time should be the time for legislation, infrastructure, culture, and opposite that we have short time, the time for action, and it seems to me that Caisse [des Dépôts, NDLR] is situated at the superposition of these two times." The co-chairman of the Conseil national du numérique (CNNum) was speaking at the second edition of TechSprint, organized by Caisse des Dépôts in Paris on April 5, 2024.During the morning, the winners of the first edition of TechSprint pitched their projects in seven rigorous minutes: monitoring the quality of the Seine in Paris, decarbonizing school transport, eliminating water and electricity leaks in tourism, and more. Local authorities can take a closer look at the two projects proposed by Cleyrop. Its MobilCVL project is part of the #ClimateDataHub initiative supported by the Centre-Val de Loire region. It proposes to implement a solution for collecting, exploiting and displaying mobility data from high school students, to provide the region with relevant dashboards for implementing an action plan to decarbonize mobility. The second, Green Tourism Target, aims to provide tools for eliminating water leakage in tourism in all regions.Four challenges relating to public policies for ecological transitionFor the second edition of Techsprint, candidates were asked to take up four challenges relating to public policies for ecological transition. They had to propose solutions combining data and AI to meet one of these four challenges:

  • Reduce the energy consumption of buildings;
  • Reducing the environmental impact of overland freight transport;
  • Reduce the use of natural resources, preserve ecosystems and promote the reuse of raw materials and the circular economy;
  • To serve European financial players and their customers in the field of sustainable finance. It should be noted that the projects that applied in this category, "despite their quality, did not meet the expectations of the challenge", as stated in the Caisse des Dépôts press release (outgoing link, new window) dated April 5. The jury therefore decided not to name a winner in this category.

Tailor-made support for 6 monthsAnother notable fact: in every case, the mobilization of private-sector data, cross-referenced with public-sector data, is essential to the success of national objectives. Thanks to TechSprint, consortium-projects should be able to accelerate their development to scale up their data / AI solutions. "Winners will benefit from financial support and customized coaching for 6 months, aimed at making their technological solution more reliable, maximizing their positive impact on the ecological transition and accelerating their dissemination in economic sectors or local authorities", details the press release. On April 5, the jury thus selected seven solutions.Managing the ongoing transition of forests linked to climate changeThe Archy project-team provides managers of public (local authorities, social landlords, etc.) or private assets with a global view of their buildings' actual and estimated available resources, as well as their future building material requirements. "The iLander Forêts project-team is helping to manage the ongoing transition of forests due to climate change, by identifying forest species at plot level and monitoring dieback in real time. The Altereo-ID project-team is a digital solution that helps local authorities define their stormwater planning and management strategy, by providing them with a multi-thematic and integrated diagnosis of their territory.The solution proposed by the ORUS Energy project-team reduces the load on the electricity grid during peak hours, and reimburses 10% of the electricity bill of building managers.The Myriad project-team offers a digital platform for simulating and optimizing freight transport by identifying synergies between different activities within a group, without requiring any transformation of organizations. The Carto-Flux project-team's dynamic mapping solution provides knowledge of flows to target actions to reduce kilometers traveled and reduce the impact of last-mile logistics, estimated to account for 25% of the sector's greenhouse gas emissions.Finally, the Digital TER X 2050 project team is proposing a solution designed to develop a European construction data space based on the interoperability of cloud services and data sharing, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions in the construction sector.
