What is Snowflake?

Snowflake is a cloud-based data management platform launched in 2014, distinguished by its flexibility, performance and ease of use. Its design separating data storage from processing enables high elasticity and efficient resource management.

What pricing for Snowflake?

Snowflake has a pay-per-use billing system, meaning that users only pay when they use the solution.

Computing costs are billed on a per-use basis via an internal Snowflake metric, "Snowflake Credits", and depend on the use of 3 types of resources:
- Virtual warehouses, which are managed by the user and consume credits when queries are used
- Serverless compute, managed by Snowflake, which handles automatic functions (Copying files, Data Quality functions, Materializes views, etc.)
- Cloud services, which coordinate Snowflake's activities and are invoiced to the customer only if their consumption exceeds 10% of the daily use of the virtual warehouses.

The number of "Snowflake Credits" required to make transactions varies according to the size of the virtual warehouses.

The price of a credit can vary between €2 and €4 per credit, depending on the services requested. In addition to pricing, Snowflake charges for data storage, on a monthly basis, per TB stored.
